Update: Now, there is an incentive, to claim these coins on mainnet: aba3c2ae442aa20150996ee68f9aa4da83b57a4312891078be0c2e68c50b2801

Which means, that now, any user can append Proof of Work challenge to any output script.

Edit: Surprisingly, it is possible to lock coins on Proof of Work in a way, where solver would have a choice: to reveal its own private key on-chain, or to grind the solution, and spend coins, while keeping that key secret. Here is how it can be done:

And then, the private key can be revealed by sharing DER signature:

Or, it can remain hidden, if some grinding will be done, and if r-value and s-value will have 49 leading zero bits. Then, by doing around 2^50 computations, a victim can keep its key safe:
