How to linearize your cluster

Cool results regarding SFL. It sounds quite attractive that you can just stop anytime and are guaranteed to have been at least as good as what you started with. If you remember whether a cluster is linearized optimally, it would be easy to pick up non-optimally linearized cluster at a later time and improve them in the background.

I’m confused, I thought that CSS basically starts from the Ancestor Set Sort result, or it is guaranteed to be as good as Ancestor Set Sort by merging. If you have to do an Ancestor Set Sort to achieve at least Ancestor Set Sort quality, wouldn’t it be fair to do Ancestor Set Sort first and let SFL start with the result of Ancestor Set Sort?
